Langley Winds Ensemble
Thu Nov 5 ~ 7 p.m.
FREE ~ Open to the Public
The Langley Winds Woodwind Ensemble has been a chamber music component of the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band since 1995. Based in Virginia, the Langley Winds provide musical support for military functions such as retirements, changes of command, and other protocol events throughout the eastern seaboard, from South Carolina to Maine. Along with their mission of maintaining troop morale and esprit de corps, the ensemble performs community relations and general outreach concerts to the public. Committed to music education, the Langley Winds also engage in performances, master classes, and presentations for students from K-12 and at the collegiate level.
The Langley Winds’ repertoire spans several centuries from Renaissance to Contemporary music. In 2011, they were part of the Fellowship Program at the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival and have commissioned several new works by young composers. Most recently, the Langley Winds gave the world premiere of composer Brian DuFord’s “Angels with Red Tails,” a piece written to honor the courageous efforts of the Tuskegee Airmen.
As professional Airman-musicians, the Langley Winds are dedicated to using the power of music to inspire positive, long-lasting impressions of the United States Air Force in the hearts and minds of their audiences. They are proud to represent the nation’s Airmen who strive for excellence as they fly, flight, and win in air, space, and cyberspace.
